How IITians aim to transform India

It will be payback time for the country's most talented minds -- the stars from Indian Institutes of Technology -- when they meet for three days in Mumbai in December. PanIIT 2006, an umbrella organisation of IITians, has scheduled the annual alumni conference from December 23 to December 25.

This time a record 5,000 IITians are expected to participate in the convention, many of them from overseas.

The mission is multipronged:

To apply technological solutions to solve India's perennial problems;

Bring about professionalism in governance, and

Encourage entrepreneurship and build global brands.

PanIIT also plans to have a permanent secretariat in India to look after the initiatives with a secretary general and a core group that will work on funding and other initiatives on nation building.

He received his B.Tech degree from IIT, Kanpur, and his MS and PhD degrees from the University of Maine. From 1979 to 1981, he was with Washington State University as Assistant Professor. Since 1981, he has been teaching at IIT, Madras.

Dr. Jhunjhunwala leads the Telecommunications and Computer Networks group (TeNeT) at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras. This group is closely working with industry in the development of a number of Telecommunications and Computer Network Systems. TeNeT group has incubated a number of technology companies which work in partnership with TeNeT group to develop world class Telecom Access products.

For a variety of reasons, it makes sense for software in archeology to be open, viewed as a service, and controlled by the user community, as it requires advanced geographical information systems (GIS) and 3-D modeling techniques. In this way, even institutes with very small budgets can play a significant role.

Here'z an article the could inspire a lot of thoughts in us. Not to say that somebody, someday could come up with such thing soon enough but rather an inspirational thought to spur up things and stir up stuff in our brains to think something innovative enough to help a needy. This is especially needed in remote place.

As of me, by reading this article i could imagine things like remote assistance for practitioners / doctors in remote places who could possible get some remote assitance, from Doctors of well-know super-speciality hospitals, to assist them in critical conditions.

Another thought is a remote education (specialization in a field) for the same. Do give it a skim.
